Hassell and West 8 Collaborate for Google

Google has revealed that it’s getting a new campus. Hassell, in collaboration with West 8, has announced an ambitious design for “North Bayshore” in Mountain View, California. Their plans imagine the now office-park as a mixed-use community for the tech giant.

Key priorities include sustainability and affordable housing. The project will span 153 acres and connect local businesses, housing, wildlife, and walking and hiking trails—in hopes to create a bustling community with something to see all day long.

The master planning and urban design will be conducted by Hassell, with the parks and open space design headed up by West 8.

When speaking with World Landscape Architect, Hassell Principal Richard Mullane focused on the sustainability of Hassell’s plan, including green infrastructure and carbon-sequestration.

“Our concept doesn’t just focus on buildings; it envisions a place where people and nature coexist harmoniously — addressing climate resilience and challenging the ways in which we design communities through sustainable means,” said Mullane.

The project will also include an effort to expand the rookery of egrets and incorporate bird-safe design in all new builds.
